ABOUT

Plata Basin, triple border: Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. More precisely, region of Corrientes, Argentina. It was from there that the first chords of the "chamamé" echoed, whose most archaic origin comes from the religious songs and the dances of the Guarani that inhabited the place. Today, the rhythm as we know it is the result of a process of assimilation and modification of these dances and songs and of its fusion with the Corrientes polka. A story of how music can unite different countries and cultures and become unique in each of them by absorbing traits of the culture of each locality. And it was precisely as a result of its geographical location that the Chamamé spread throughout the extension of the River Basin of the River Plate.

In Brazil, the tradition of chamamé is quite strong in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul. The latter embraces the tradition more than a hundred years ago when, with the end of the Paraguayan War, it received Several immigrants from the region looking for work, bringing with them their musical traditions. Currently, MS is considered to be one of the main chamamé centers outside the province of Corrientes. The uniqueness of the rhythm in the state is mainly the result of the change that occurred in the rhythm played in the region, which made it unique and with peculiarities that differentiate it from the played in neighboring countries and states. And this is the focus of the documentary "Ao Som do Chamamé", which is currently in the pre-launch phase and has been screened in private sessions at Cine Odeon in RJ and Cinemark in Campo Grande / MS.
